Basketball crazy

July 20, 2007

I admit, I’m a basketball junkie. I can watch whatever kind of basketball game, and not be bored. I look for details, I look for plays and I look for the habits of each player on the court. Maybe I can be a scout… anyway, here are some basketball photos from the last week.

I am an avid supporter of local artists; visually or musically… I have been lucky enough to take photos of recording artists before they make it big and most of them actually do become famous.

Mabuhay Magazine

July 20, 2007

When I was a kid, I remember having only two magazines in at my tita’s house where I used to stay every saturday to play basketball. When it was raining outside, I’d rummage through her collection of magazines. And there I discovered Mabuhay Magazine and National Geographic. Fast forward to two decades later, I’m there at the offices of the same magazine whose contents made me imagine what it would be like to be there, the exotic places and the treasures of the islands we call home.

Here are a few photographs from the past few weeks…

Language of the image

July 10, 2007

Basketball can provide various chances to produce images that can range from a pretty courtside reporter standing out in a basketball court or a high impact shot like a tiny player outjumping everyone else.
This week, our class is about the language of the image. After this one, there’s going to be less snapshots for me. I need more images that talk, that say something.

Depth of field

July 4, 2007

While this photo probably won’t be submitted along with my photo story, it still has something to do with depth of field.

Model: Dianne Elise, recording artist of RTMI
Inside the studio, DOF provides added depth to the subject rather than just flat and plain lighting. In this photo, the front part (her eyes, face and hair are in focus) then from her nose till the back are blurred out.

Again face is in focus and the hair is slightly blurred out.

Technical data is ISO 100, 1/200 and f11. Focal length is 200mm.

Bokeh

July 2, 2007

Bokeh (from the Japanese boke ぼけ, “blur”[1]) is a photographic term referring to out-of-focus areas in an image produced by a camera lens. The aesthetic qualities of the bokehs produced by various lenses are open to dispute, but it is generally conceded that an out-of-focus background image can at the very least reduce distractions and emphasize the primary subject.
